1. Introduction
This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. It sets out the steps that BudgetWise Ltd (trading as Isaac) has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within our business or supply chains.
Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, and human trafficking, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain.
We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships, and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere within our business or in any of our supply chains.
2. About our business
BudgetWise Ltd is a United Kingdom-registered company that develops and operates Isaac, a retirement planning application. Our primary activities include:
- Developing and maintaining mobile and web-based retirement planning software
- Providing subscription-based financial planning tools to individual consumers
- Offering business-to-business solutions for employers and independent financial advisers
- Publishing educational content relating to UK pensions and retirement
We operate primarily in the United Kingdom. Our team works remotely, and our technology infrastructure is hosted through established, reputable cloud service providers.
3. Our supply chains
As a technology company, our supply chains are relatively focused. They primarily consist of:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure services (data centres, server provision)
- Software-as-a-service providers (email delivery, payment processing, analytics, authentication)
- Professional services (legal, accounting, compliance advisory)
- Marketing and distribution partners (app stores, advertising platforms)
- Freelance and contract workers engaged for development or design tasks
We recognise that, while our supply chain risks may differ from those in manufacturing or agriculture, modern slavery can exist in any sector, and we remain vigilant.
4. Our policies
We operate a number of internal policies to ensure we are conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner. These include:
Anti-slavery and human trafficking policy
We are committed to ensuring there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. This policy reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships.
Recruitment and employment practices
We follow fair and transparent recruitment practices. All workers are entitled to written terms of engagement, fair compensation, and the right to leave employment freely. We verify the right-to-work status of all employees and contractors in compliance with UK law. We do not use any form of forced, bonded, or involuntary labour.
Whistleblowing
We encourage all workers, contractors, and partners to report any concerns related to the direct activities or supply chains of the organisation. Our reporting mechanism is designed to make it easy to report wrongdoing in confidence, without fear of retaliation.
Code of conduct
Our code of conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all persons working for us, including contractors and freelancers. It makes clear that illegal practices, including modern slavery, are wholly unacceptable.
5. Due diligence and risk assessment
To identify and mitigate the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking occurring within our business or supply chains, we undertake the following steps:
- Evaluate new and existing suppliers and partners for their approach to ethical employment practices
- Require key suppliers to confirm they comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 or equivalent legislation in their jurisdiction
- Review and assess the risk profile of our supply chains, considering geography, industry sector, and the nature of the commercial relationship
- Investigate any reports or suspicions of modern slavery or human trafficking promptly and thoroughly
- Terminate relationships with any supplier or partner found to be involved in modern slavery
We consider the technology sector to be generally lower risk for modern slavery compared to labour-intensive industries. However, we acknowledge that risks can arise indirectly — for example, through the physical supply chains of our cloud hosting providers’ data centres — and we take reasonable steps to address these.
6. Training and awareness
We ensure that all members of our team are made aware of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking. Key personnel involved in procurement, recruitment, and supplier management receive information on:
- How to identify the signs of modern slavery and human trafficking
- What steps to take if they suspect modern slavery is occurring
- The legal obligations of the company under the Modern Slavery Act 2015
- How to report concerns safely and in confidence
7. Measuring effectiveness
We use the following key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of our efforts to combat modern slavery:
- Percentage of suppliers who have confirmed their compliance with anti-slavery legislation
- Number of reports received through our whistleblowing mechanism relating to modern slavery
- Completion of awareness communications among team members
- Regular review and update of this statement and related policies
8. Our commitment going forward
We are committed to continuously improving our practices to combat modern slavery and human trafficking. We will:
- Continue to review and strengthen our supply chain due diligence processes
- Regularly update our policies and procedures to reflect best practices and changes in legislation
- Ensure ongoing awareness among our team and partners
- Publish an updated Modern Slavery Statement annually
Approval
This statement has been approved by the directors of BudgetWise Ltd and will be reviewed and updated annually.
